Spiceland Friends Church
Friends, Faith, Fruit
We are excited that you have visited us as we worship our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ in a simple and reflective manner and serve the world around us in simple ways that bring honor to Jesus Christ.
SFC believes…
- Jesus Christ is who He claimed to be (Savior and Lord), overcame death through His resurrection, and will return again. (I Corinthians 15:4)
- Personal faith in Jesus Christ is the only way to heaven. (Acts 4:12; John 3:16; Titus 3:5)
- Jesus Christ is fully God and came to earth as fully human. (Hebrews 2:17, 18)
- There is ONE GOD who interacts with His creation in THREE PERSONS (Father, Son, and Holy Spirit — The Trinity). (John 1:1)
- The Bible is God’s inspired, authoritative Holy Word. (2 Peter 1:21; 2 Timothy 3:16,17)
- Through Christ each individual believer has his/her own personal relationship with God and should minister to others through love and service (Priesthood of All Believers). (1 Peter 2:5)
Simple Uniqueness
After our weekly prepared message, we have an “unprogrammed” time when we can commune with God, and reflect on the message. It’s a simple way for us to set aside a few minutes each week to reflect and listen to God as He speaks to us through his Spirit, his Word, or others around us. We call this time “Communion after the Manner of Friends.”
Friends believe faith in Jesus Christ is represented in a simple, internal change of heart (a repentance and faith decision). This heart change is brought about through a confessing faith in Jesus Christ as one’s personal Lord and Savior and continues to grow through a lifelong relationship with Jesus Christ and the work of the Holy Spirit. (1 Corinthians 6:11; Acts 11:16).
Baptism – There is a common misunderstanding that Friends “do not believe in baptism.” It is better said that Friends commonly do not practice outward water baptism as we believe the Scriptures teach that a believer, once acknowledging his/her fallen nature, having a repenting heart, and accepting the atoning work and lordship of Christ is baptized inwardly by the Holy Spirit as they live out a committed, Christian walk. Friends hold this baptism of the Holy Spirit in high esteem. (Matt 3:11, Mark 1:8, Luke 3:16, John 1:33, Acts 1:5)
Communion – Friends believe that every meal, every conversation, every gathering of believers is potentially a sacramental experience — Christ present with us — and that our communion with God cannot be reduced to the outward sacrament of bread and cup communion. Our ongoing communion with God should affect everything we do and say, and it should affect our choices and how we live our lives in service of God and our fellow man.
