One Question After Another -- Episode 4

One Question After Another -- Episode 4

We are in our fourth month of looking at a list of questions intended to stimulate our thinking and hearts as we live out our Christian faith. Historically, early Friends called questions “Queries.” They were commonly used during worship to help turn hearts and minds toward God’s thoughts. These questions are an excellent way for us to consider our faith journey. I plan to address these questions (queries) one at a time in our 2023 newsletters. I pray that you meditate sincerely on these questions in a way that brings closeness and confidence to your Christian walk.

Here is the question for June: "Are you careful with the reputation of others?"

This is always a challenge, but it is especially difficult today because we are constantly permitted to “sling mud” at those we disagree with. Scripture gives us extremely clear instructions regarding the proper use of our tongues. We must remember that what we say and how we hold the reputation of others impacts our own hearts, the heart of those we slander, and, very importantly, the hearts of those who are listening and watching how we treat one another as Christians. Choose your words with wisdom, always looking to lift others up. To do otherwise damages our relationship with God and fellow man. It impacts our witness for Christ.

“By this, all will know that you are my disciples if you love one another.” (John 13:35)
